Between 40 and 50 common Atlantic white-sided dolphins have been stranded on beaches in Cape Cod, Massachusetts since Thursday and more are expected to be found, in one of the biggest mass strandings in recent years. It is not clear what is causing the strandings, but studies suggest dolphins have trouble using echolocation to “see” in waters where the shoreline slopes gently to the beach.
