April 1982. Argentina invades the Falkland Islands. Young British soldiers, sailors and airmen are sent 8,000 miles to the bottom of the world. Their orders; 'liberate the islands and return them to the people who live there'.
HMS Peterborough and HMS Fearless are returning to their home port. As they prepare for the reunions, events are unfolding in the South Atlantic which will change the lives of the sailors on board forever.
The fleet is ordered to sail immediately. HMS Sheffield is attacked and lost, a massive wakeup call to the sailors on Peterborough and Fearless. Finally D day arrives and Fearless moves into San Carlos water to begin the landing phase of the operation to retake the islands.
Harrier aircraft are engaged but wave after wave of Argentine aircraft still manage to fly into 'bomb alley' to attack the ships at anchor there.
This semi-autobiographical novel tells the story of the young men who were sent to the bottom of the world to liberate a remote group of islands and their inhabitants.
