Focus
The average length of a cucumber is between 6 and 7 inches. In 2010, Mrs Pearce, a 78-year-old British grandmother harvested a 43-inch long cucumber. The current world record for the longest cucumber is 41.25 inches. It was also set by a cucumber grown in England in 2008. Mrs Pearce invited Guinness World Record officials to examine the vegetable in the hope that it would be officially recognised as a new record.
Mrs Pearce had an even longer cucumber that measured 47 inches but it rotted away before it could be officially measured.
Mrs Pearce and her granddaughter pose with the giant cucumber.
